Nothing, a while back someone got in touch with a GM representative and they said there is no meaning for it.

Thanks for the quick info. I mostly did'nt understand why they put an "i" and not an "s" in SSEi (SSEs) for supercharged.

"i" = 'injected' on most other brands. Like motorcycles more specifically. But all Bonnes are injected for that matter.

It can mean whatever you want it to. I think the i is just to separate it from the SSE.

Keep in mind that when Pontia developed it in 1991, the target to compete with was the BMW. Now there might be an explanation for the 'i'.

Hmmmmm, interesting!!! Ill never be able to keep up with all the numbers and letters that BMW has for all their series, just come up with a name for cripes sake!

SSEi means nothing! I look at it as SSE is perhaps an upgraded SE (maybe Sport SE who knows) and the i just denotes it that much further. It's kinda excessive as far as trim lines go..

That's easy. Using the XYY scheme, the X is the model, and YY is the engine... Then you have i for normal models, D for diesel, XI for AWD, etc... :P

Seriously though, I always thought it was Supercharged Sport Edition and never could figure out the i. Hopefully soon mine will be Supercharged Sport Edition intercooled

I have always like Sports Sedan Edition... But sadly it has no meaning...

The Only set of leters that did have any meaning was the SLE( Sport Luxury Edition ) For the 93-99 Model years you could have gotten an SE with the SLE package... Later years could be had with a body kit like the SSE and with the SLE nameplate... This was still an SE Bonneville with leather and a couple of other options... In 95-97 you could have gotten the SLE with a supercharged 3800... Bla bla bla... Too much to list..

so SLE is Sport Luxury Edition, its the only one with a meaning

The i for BMW stands for Fuel injection.... started when they started using it and they have just kept it going for some reason.
